The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team continued their climb as a program in 2015-2016.

The Golden Hawks ended the year with a 12-9 dual record, one win shy of the school record 13 win mark set in 2013-2014. The Hawks were 8-4 in the River Valley Conference, finishing in fifth place. Mid-Prairie claimed one tournament championship on the year, topping the field at the WACO Warrior Invitational on Saturday, January 16th. Mid-Prairie also finished second at the North Lynn Invitational.

The Golden Hawks finished fifth in the team standings of six competing teams at sectionals in Mediapolis with 118 team points. Mid-Prairie qualified four wrestlers for districts, Duncan McCain, Cameron Tolander, Visouth Peterschmidt and Levi Duwa. At districts, McCain and Duwa each were crowned champions in their weight classes. At state, Duwa was the first Golden Hawk in 23 years to reach an individual championship match, finishing runner up at 220lbs. Both wrestlers qualified for the second time in their career.

The Golden Hawks graduate one senior from this year’s team, 170lb former state qualifier Cameron Tolander. Tolander eclipsed the 100 win mark for his career and finished his senior season with a 31-7 record.
