Three members of the Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union wrestling team have advanced to next weekend’s district tournament. The Wildcats were among the six-team Class 2A Section 7 tournament hosted by Mediapolis High School.

Two Wildcat seniors won their respective weight classes. Josh Keller (113), last year’s state runner up at 106 pounds, defeated Mid-Prairie junior Duncan McCain in a battle of undefeated wrestlers in the championship match of the 113 pound division. Tucker Morrison (170) joined Keller as a sectional champion, edging Mid-Prairie’s Cameron Tolander by a 4-1 decision in the championship match at 170 pounds.

Junior Armando Quiroz (126) is also advancing to next Saturday’s district tournament. Quiroz made the championship match at 126 pounds, falling by decision to Washington’s Andrew Waite.

The three Wildcat wrestlers will battle for a trip to the state meet at Saturday’s district tournament at Clear Creek-Amana High School. First grapples are set for noon.
