Fresh off their first regional dual championship in school history, 10 members of the No. 7 Washington Demon wrestling team have a chance to make the state tournament as individuals. Washington has been paired in the Class 2A District 4 tournament against wrestlers from Mid-Prairie, Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union, Benton, Center Point-Urbana, Clear Creek-Amana, Fairfield, Mediapolis, Union, Vinton-Shellsburg, Williamsburg, and West Burlington/Notre Dame/Danville. The top two wrestlers from each weight class at districts will advance to next week’s individual state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

The Demons vying for a spot at next week state tournament include: Garrett Ikerd (FR; 106), David Hora (FR; 120), Andrew Waite (JR; 126), Kyle Anderson (JR; 132), Austin Hazelett (JR; 138), Michael Ellingson (SR; 145), Trey Van Weelden (JR; 152), Tristan Westphal-Edwards (FR; 160), Karlton Skubal (JR; 182), and Mitchell Huseinga (SO; 285).

First matches of the Class 2A District 4 wrestling tournament are set to commence at noon at Clear Creek-Amana High School. KCII Sports will have a full recap of Saturday’s events on Monday’s sports page.
