The Red Flag Horseless Carriage Tour will be stopping in Washington this year. The tour mimics an annual event held in England from London to Brighton that commemorates the Locomotives on Highway Act passage in 1896 which increased the speed limit from four miles per hour to 14 miles per hour and eliminated the need to be proceeded by a man on foot with a red flag. Locally the tour goes from New London in Henry County to Brighton. The tour will stop in Washington Thursday, September 22. The council approved a special parking request around the square from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the antique vehicles.
