The Highland School District hosted three meetings across the district last week to discuss budget cuts. Popular suggestions at the meetings included increasing efficiency of bus routes, making the buildings more energy efficient, sharing teachers and staff with other districts, outsourcing custodial work, and investing in solar or wind energy for the district. The school is dealing with a $230,000 short-fall this year due to declining enrollment and lack of state funding. Highland Superintendent Chris Armstrong tells KCII News, he would like to find $500,000 in savings and the school board will have difficult decisions to make in March when they set the budget.
