The Sigourney and Pekin school boards have entered into an agreement to share Sigourney Superintendent Dave Harper with the Pekin School District for the 2016-2017 school year. The agreement will be on a year-to-year basis and will 50/50 cost sharing agreement. Sigourney Community School District Business Manager Susan Huls tells KCII News, that by sharing Harper, the district will save $79,686 per year. In the 2017-2018 school year state budget incentives would kick in with the state pledging an additional $51,000 in funding for the school for a total savings for the district of more than $131,000. Huls added this is one way the state is assisting with rural school districts.
