Fifteen area wrestlers have an opportunity to grapple on Iowa’s biggest stage today. The 2016 Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament begins today at Wells Fargo in Des Moines and athletes from six schools in the KCII listening area will battle for individual titles.

The Washington Demons and Sigourney/Keota will have the most representation at the Well, qualifying four wrestlers each. Competing for Washington in the Class 2A state individual tournament includes Andrew Waite (126), Austin Hazelett (138), Trey Van Weelden (152), and Tristan Westphal-Edwards (160). Sigourney/Keota advanced Luke House (113), Lane Boender (145), Kaleb Reeves (182) and Noah Boender (195) for the Class 1A tournament.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks, the Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union Wildcats, and the Highland Huskies have qualified two wrestlers each for the state tournament. Wrestling for the Golden Hawks in the Class 2A tournament includes Duncan McCain (113) and Levi Duwa (220). The Wildcats are represented by Josh Keller (113) and Tucker Morrison (170) in the Class 2A tournament. The Huskies qualified twin brothers Bryce West (120) and Drew West (126) for the Class 1A tournament.

WACO’s Cody Crawford (285) is the Warriors’ only wrestler who earned a spot in the Class 1A tournament.
