The timber harvest at the English River Wildlife Area is concluding this weekend. The harvest consisted of silver maples, ash, locust, and hackberry trees over 43 acres of the wildlife area. Hammes Brothers Sawmill of Ollie paid $81,106 for the harvest rights. Steve Anderson Executive Director of Washington County Conservation says, the harvest has been a great success. Hammes has been very professional and courteous throughout the entire process, at one point stopping the harvest when the ground thawed out of concern for the land. The harvest is being done to encourage new growth and the area is expected to have a dramatic increase in wildlife in coming years. Anderson says the funds raised from the harvest will be used for Washington County Conservation projects in the future.
