For the first time since the end of winter break, the Washington Archery teams will not be spending the weekend in competition. The last flight the Washington High School, middle school, and Lincoln Elementary school archers took part in was last weekend at Springville High School.

The youngest members of the archery team continued to be a bright spot as the Lincoln Elementary archers took first place in the shoot, scoring 2,835 points. Fifth grader Curtis Stender highlighted the day with a 269 out of a possible 300 points, the second best performance in the 55 person elementary division. Fifth grader Allison Rees posted a 261, the fourth best finish in the 51 person field.

The Washington High School team scored 3,184 points, placing fourth out of nine teams. Junior John Sands recorded a squad-best score of 274, placing 12th overall. Sophomore Jessica Hora marked 271 points to top the Demon girls, ending the shoot in 17th place overall in the high school girls class.

Washington’s highest score of the event came from eighth grader Samantha Mellinger, who shot a 275 with 13 bullseyes. She placed fifth in the 107 person middle school girls field, and 17th overall amongst all 237 female archers. As a team, the middle school team scored a 3,115, finishing fifth in the six-team shoot.

The Demons resume competition on Saturday, February 20, hosting the Washington Archery Shoot.
