Two Washington County rivals are set to collide tonight at Washington Middle School. The Washington Demon girls’ and boys’ basketball teams welcome the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks to town for a non-conference doubleheader.

The girls’ game features two teams with records of .500 or better this season. With a pair of wins over the weekend, the Demon girls’ basketball team (9-9 overall) has now won nine of their 18 games played, while the Golden Hawks (12-8 overall) have won 12 of their 20 contests. Washington senior Addie Pacha leads the Demons in points scored (174), rebounds (130), and blocks (13). Mid-Prairie has two players who have scored over 200 points this season. Junior Ali Butters leads the Golden Hawks with 234 points, while senior Addison Rath chipped in 226. Mid-Prairie won last season’s meeting, 44-30, at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.

The boys’ game pits two teams trying to eclipse last year’s win total. The Demons are trying to win seven games in a season for the first time since the 2011-12 season (13-9). Mid-Prairie is in search of their second win after earning one victory all of last season. Washington senior Derek Anding is the top scorer in the Southeast Conference, pouring in a career-best 335 points. Mid-Prairie senior Nolan Faselt leads the Golden Hawk’s scoring attack, recording 151 points. Washington won last season’s clash, 58-35, in Wellman.

Due to Washington hosting tonight’s regional dual tournament, tonight’s games will be played at Washington Middle School. KCII Sports will have live play-by-play coverage of the varsity double header beginning with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 5:30 p.m. on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIRadio.com.
