Another weekend tournament was conquered by the No. 7 Washington Demon wrestling team (29-1) Saturday. The Demon wrestlers traveled to Fairfield for the Southeastern Invitational, competing against athletes from Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Davis County, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Knoxville, Mount Pleasant, and Clarke County.

Washington had eight wrestlers make it to the championship bouts, and freshman Walker Ikerd (113) and junior Trey Van Weelden (152) came away as the top grapplers in their weight divisions. The Washington athletes who made it to the championship match included: David Hora (120), Andrew Waite (126), Kyle Anderson (132), Austin Hazelett (138), Tristan Westphal-Edwards (160), and Karlton Skubal (182).

The Demons scored 192.5 points to take the Southeastern Invitational Championship. This marks the sixth wrestling tournament won by Washington this season.

The Demon wrestlers will enter postseason competition next Saturday, battling in the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Class 2A Sectional 7 tournament at Mediapolis High School. First grapples are set for noon.
