The starting shooting guard for the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team (7-15 overall) ends the regular season as the Southeast Conference’s leading scorer. Senior Derek Anding has recorded a league-best 409 points this season, the 13th highest total in Class 3A basketball.

Anding didn’t start out the season lighting up the scoreboard, scoring 31 total points in his first three games. Since then, he has scored 20 or more points in 11 of his team’s final 19 regular season contests. The Demons posted a 4-7 record when Anding scores 20 or more points. Washington won both games where he scored 30 or more points.

The postseason for the Demon boys’ basketball team opens tomorrow evening against the Clear Creek Amana Clippers at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids.
