Several area girls’ track teams spent their Saturday in Pella, participating in the the Central College Indoor Track Meet. Athletes from Washington, Lone Tree, and WACO competed in 13 events over the weekend, and there were several notable performances.

Lone Tree’s Paige Doehrmann was the only athlete from the KCII-listening area to qualify for the finals of the 60 meter dash, running an initial time of 8.57 seconds. Doehrmann dropped her time by two-tenths of a second in the finals, placing 10th overall with a time of 8.36.

Three area girls finished in the top 40 in the meet’s 200 meter dash. WACO’s Angel Frier clocked the 21st best sprint at 29.27 seconds. Washington’s Jenah Greiner was the Demons’ top performer, posting a time of 29.43 seconds, the 23rd best time. Makenzie Knutson also represented Washington in the event, clocking a time of 29.82 seconds, the 34th fastest time.

A pair of area athletes finished among the top 15 in the 400 meter dash. Washington’s Isabel Bailey had the top time for the listening area, clocking the seventh best quarter-mile run of 1:07.8. WACO’s Hallie Kissel finished the dash in 1:08.9, the 15th best finish in the meet.

Washington’s Emme Keith was the only competitor from southeast region to clock a top 20 time in the 800 meter run. Her time of 2:49.67 was the 17th best.

Finally, the Demons’ top 4×800 meter relay team came in fifth place out of 16 squads, documenting a time of 10:42.95. The members of the relay team include: Molly Sparks, Keith, Brooke Stout, and Ashley Telleen.

The meet concludes the indoor track season for all three schools, and each squad will begin their outdoor season next week. Washington and Lone Tree will compete outside for the first time next Tuesday. The Demons will travel to West Burlington for the Falcon Relays, while the Lady Lions road trip to Belle Plaine. WACO’s outdoor season begins next Thursday, competing in the Bulldog Relays hosted by Mediapolis High School.
