Senator Charles Grassley is chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. With the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, it is that committee’s role to vett an individual nominated by President Obama to fill the position. Grassley has repeatedly said that he will not allow any Presidential nominee to be considered until after the next Presidential election. Grassley says the American people should have voice in the argument about Supreme Court appointments that would change the court for a generation. When asked if his stance would remain the same if a Republican was in the oval office, Grassley said it wouldn’t change.

When asked about his blocking the potential nomination of a fellow Iowan who many say is qualified for the position, Judge Jane Kelly of Cedar Rapids, Grassley said that that it is the principal and not the person that matters in this process.
