A Winfield-Mount Union senior is continuing his football career at the state’s only Division II football program. Sam Jennings is one of 16 new members of the Upper Iowa University Peacocks football team.

Jennings was a two-way starter for the W-MU Wolves football team the past two seasons, and was also the team’s starting punter. Jennings was the district’s most valuable defensive player as a senior, leading the league in total tackles with 106. He also intercepted three passes, returning two for touchdowns, and recovered three fumbles. His efforts helped the Wolves finish the year 10-1 overall, and clinched a district championship for the first time since 1999.

Jennings is one of four Peacock signees from the state of Iowa, and is one of five new linebackers.

Upper Iowa University competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, and finished last season with an overall record of 6-5.
