At their most recent meeting, the Kalona City Council began preparations to provide members of the community with access to recreation during construction of the new community center.

Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh confirmed that the council has decided to enter into a lease agreement with Performance Health and Fitness, located in the Bulltown Plaza at 209 1st St. in Kalona. This will give those in the community access to the services of the recreation center while the new building is under construction. The lease begins April 1st at an amount of $2,250 per month. This agreement also allows space for Performance Health and Fitness to continue operating in the same space. The council also approved the purchase of equipment now being used by Performance Health and Fitness at an amount of $17,000 to replace and upgrade rec center equipment. The equipment purchase will be paid for with Local Option Sales Tax and Casino Funds.
