The Mid-Prairie boys soccer team was on the pitch for the first time in 2016, traveling to Solon for a scrimmage with the Spartans Thursday.

Solon finished 11-8 a season ago, while Mid-Prairie was 8-7. The Spartans eliminated the Golden Hawks in the first round of the 2015 playoffs by a 3-0 score. Solon won the scrimmage by a final score of 2-0. Mid-Prairie played a sound first half defensively, holding the Spartans off the board but were unable to get things going in their own offensive half, leaving the score 0-0 at the half. In the second half Solon got a strike of their own and also capitalized on a Mid-Prairie own goal. Golden Hawk head coach Pat Cady said he was pleased with the team’s effort and progress against a good opponent especially while playing down two starters. The Golden Hawks will next be on the pitch Monday when they host Iowa Mennonite School for a scrimmage at the Wellman Soccer Complex.
