Preparedness – that is one of the five days of this Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa. Larry Smith, Washington and Keokuk County Emergency Management Coordinator, tells KCII News, people should have some supplies on hand in case a severe storm rolls through the area. In your home, have two gallons of water per person per day, non-perishable food, medication and cash in a tote or back pack. If the power goes out ATMs and card readers won’t be functional.

It is also recommended to have some supplies, including food and water, ready for any pets. In cars, have a blanket, snack bars, jumper cables, a flash light and water. Smith also advises in your everyday travels commuting to and from work, think about good places you could pull into if a storm was in the area.

The statewide tornado drill will be held at 10 a.m. today, listen to KCII then for live coverage of the event.
