Earning a share of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North title helped the Lone Tree Lion boys basketball team (18-6 overall) land multiple members on this year’s all-conference teams. The Lions received two first team honors, one second team distinction, and a pair of honorable mention selections.

Leading the accolades for the Lions is junior point guard Jovonte Squires, who shared the conference’s Most Valuable Player distinction with Iowa Mennonite School senior Eli Gingerich. Squires ranked in the top five in the league in multiple categories. He led the conference in assists (189) and steals (95). His 388 points scored is third most in the SEISC North and 89 made free throws is the most among the 11-team league.

Junior forward Niko Gosnell was the second Lone Tree athlete named to the first-team squad. Gosnell topped the Lions with 144 rebounds, the sixth most in the SEISC North, and his 45 blocks were the third highest total in the league.

Junior guard Ross Swinton was recognized by the coaches as a second team all-conference performer. Swinton was the team’s top three-point specialist, making 36 shots from beyond the arc.

Junior Michael Schmidt and sophomore Brock Smith were named as honorable mention selections.

Lone Tree boys’ basketball coach Tom Squires was honored as the Coach of the Year in the SEISC North. He shared the award last season with Highland’s Marcus Hall.

The Lions finished the season 18-6 overall, earning a share of the SEISC North title with the Highland Huskies. The Lions lose Jared Hudson to graduation.
