Multiple members of the Washington archery teams are ranked among the top 50 shooters in Iowa in their respective age divisions ahead of this weekend’s Iowa National Archery in the School’s Program’s state shoot.

Washington’s highest ranked archers come from Lincoln Elementary school, where a pair of fifth graders are ranked in the top three statewide. Allison Rees enters the weekend as the top elementary girls’ shooter in Iowa, recording a state-best score of 274 out of 300 during the Mount Vernon tournament on March 9. Curtis Stender heads to Des Moines with the third best elementary school score in the state, recording a 275 at the 2016 Bellevue February Tournament. Fifth grader Hayden Janecek is also ranked among the top 25 elementary school archers, posting a 253 in the Washington archery shoot, the 21st best performance in the state.

Senior Jade Wells is the only high school shooter currently in the top 10 in the state in her age division. Her season-best score of 287 was recorded twice this season and is the eighth best score in Iowa. Junior John Sands is ranked 37th overall in the high school boys’ division, shooting a high of 284 at the Solon Spartan Archery Tournament on January 23.

Eighth grader Samantha Mellinger highlights the middle school’s ranked archers. Her highest score of the season came at the Solon Spartan Archery Tournament on January 23, recording a 276, the 27th best middle school girls marks in the state. Eighth grader Emily Waite is the 38th best archer in Iowa, filing a season-high 275 during the Washington Archery Shoot. Sixth grader Lane Frana is Washington’s best junior-high boys’ archer, reaching the 276 plateau twice during the season, the 44th best score in Iowa among middle school boys.

All three teams will compete in the 2016 Iowa NASP State Tournament this Saturday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
