One of the best long distance runners in the region is embarking on his final track season for the Highland Huskies. Senior Keiffer Sexton returns to the Huskies as their top runner in the 1600 and 3200 meter events. He medaled at the state track meet last season in both runs, placing fourth in the one mile race with a time of 4:35.60 and took third place in the two mile run with a time of 10:03.63.

Sexton, a Western Illinois Leathernecks commit, has earned numerous awards for his distance running. On the track, Sexton earned All-Conference and All-District honors his first three track seasons, and gained All-State honors his sophomore and junior seasons.. He was also named to the All-Conference cross country team each of his four years at Highland, made the All-District team his final three cross country seasons, and was tabbed to the All-State team the past two seasons.

Sexton opened his last high school track season on March 4, competing in the Demon Indoor Meet at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. His initial time of 4:45.87 in the 1600 meter run was the seventh best performance among the 44-person field.

Sexton and the Huskies boys’ track team will begin their outdoor season on March 24, competing in the Demon Relays at Case Field in Washington.
