The statewide tornado drill that is held each year in Iowa during Severe Weather Awareness Week will be held Thursday. The drill had originally been scheduled for Wednesday, but was delayed due to the chance of storms in the state. During the statewide tornado drill, cities’ outdoor sirens will be sounded and the KCII Severe Weather Action Team will bring you live coverage of the event. Larry Smith, Washington and Keokuk County Emergency Management Coordinator, tells KCII News during the drill they ask that everyone seek shelter as they would if a tornado warning was issued.

He says as severe weather approaches this spring it is important for people to be aware of the weather and their surroundings, in case they ever need to seek shelter, whether at home, a ball game or commuting to and from work.
