Washington County owns a piece of land in the City of Washington that is landlocked by the school district and the district would like to purchase the small strip of land to progress on the Stewart Elementary School expansion. Daniel Kitchen explained the piece of land near where Stewart West stood was owned by county for about four decades and came to own it through tax sale. The supervisors discussed gifting the small piece of land to the school districts, which is allowable because it will be for public use. A public hearing will be held in April regarding the land transfer. A $2.3 million bond issue passed last June to add six classrooms and a daycare center onto the elementary school.
