Eighteen members of Washington archery teams will compete in the nation’s biggest shoot later this year. The Demon high school, middle school, and Lincoln Elementary school archery teams finished among the top 10 teams in the Iowa National Archery in the School’s Programs state shoot March 5 in Des Moines, qualifying each group for the national shoot in Louisville, Kentucky, this May.

Washington head archery coach Jolleen Cerka announced during last week’s PM Sports Page that the club was sending one squad comprised of members from all three teams to represent Washington at the national shoot. The members heading to the national shoot from Washington includes: Allison Rees (5th), Curtis Stender (5th), Kenna Rathmell (6th), Lane Frana (6th), Bryan Martin (7th), Samantha Mellinger (8th),Griffin Wood (FR), Mitchell Driscoll (FR), Hannah Frame (FR), and Andrew Venenga (FR), Kylee Porter (SO), Cody Mellinger (SO), Meredith Raber (SO),Willow Kane (SO), John Sands (JR), Grace Shafer (JR), Jade Wells (SR), and Joseph Dalziel (SR).

Rees and Stender will compete in Louisville as individuals in the national elementary school shoot after placing in the top 10 in the state shoot on March 5. Rees earned the elementary school state championship with a score of 279, topping the 144-person field. Stender’s mark of 272 was the fourth highest score in the 213-person elementary boys field.

The National Archery in the Schools Program’s National Shoot is set for May 12 through 14 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, KY.
