The annual home track meet for the Washington Demon boys’ track team is scheduled for tonight at Case Field. The threat of a winter storm late in the week had Washington head boys’ track coach Steve Roth decide to move the Washington Relays to this afternoon.

Roth said despite moving the day of the meet, nearly every team scheduled to compete will be in attendance. The schools set to compete today include: Cedar Rapids Prairie, Columbus, Danville, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Highland, Iowa City High (JV), Keota, Mediapolis, Mid-Prairie (JV), Mount Pleasant, Washington (JV) Wapello, and West Burlington.

The Washington boys’ track team had their season start on March 3, competing in the Demon Indoor Meet. Washington had a handful on notable performances. Senior Michael Ellingson finished in a tie for fourth place in the high jump competition, clearing 5 feet 8 inches. Junior Caleb Bex qualified for the finals of the 60 meter hurdles with an initial run of 9.23 seconds. He dropped his time in the finals to 9.19, the 11th best finish. Sophomore Tanner Murphy ran the 200 meter dash in 24.47 seconds, the 15th fastest time.

Roth adds for those interested in helping put on tonight’s meet are asked to get a hold of him at Lincoln Elementary School or call the high school office.

The Washington Relays will commence at 3:30 p.m. today at Case Field with the field events. Running events will begin at 4 p.m. KCII Sports will have full coverage of the meet on tomorrow’s sports page.
