A Mid-Prairie sixth grader recently finished in third place in the state in the Knights of Columbus spelling bee, his name is Sam Yoder. He stopped by the KCII studios recently and told us he first took part in the district spelling bee with the first and second place winners advancing to regionals, and then from regionals to state. Yoder also takes part in the Iowa State Fair spelling bee in August.

Yoder said one fun game he and his dad play to practice words they call “Nerds for Words” where if Sam gets the word right he gets a predetermined amount of Nerds the candy. They also helped establish a spelling club in Kalona.
