A band director who came to Washington in April of 1972, Mike Vax, is returning this weekend to present the Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra. Mike Tschantz shares Vax came to perform with the high school jazz band and work as a clinician and guest soloist and then helped raise money for the band to go to Switzerland. Tschantz adds he hopes to see people of all ages attend, as some of the musicians are studio musicians in Los Angeles and elsewhere. He adds it’s a chance to see big band music, an art that is starting to fade.

The Stan Kenton Legacy Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Washington Community Center, tickets can be purchased in advance and are $20 for adults and $15 for students. Click here for more information.
