Eight games into the year and the No. 6 Columbus Wildcats boys’ soccer team (8-0 overall) has yet to be bested on the pitch. The Wildcats put their undefeated record on the line at home Tuesday night when they hosted the Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders (4-3 overall). The Wildcats posted their fifth shutout of the spring, upending the Crusaders, 3-0.

The game was scoreless heading into the 17th minute when a Holy Trinity foul set up Columbus with a free kick just outside the the Crusaders’ box. Junior Erick Cantarero wrapped the kick around the defense and into the left corner of the net, giving Columbus a 1-0 lead. The score stayed intact as the teams headed into intermission.

The Wildcats added an insurance goal in the 49th minute when senior Diego Sanchez found the back of the net from 10 yards out, giving Columbus a two-goal advantage. The final tally was recorded in the 79th minute when junior Ruben Paz iced the game with his third goal of the season, bringing the final score to 3-0.

The Wildcats will embark on back-to-back road games starting tonight. Columbus travels to rural Riverside this evening for a Southeast Conference match versus the Highland Huskies (2-7 overall) before roadtripping to Centerville tomorrow for a non-conference game against the Big Red (0-8 overall).
