After winning eight of their first nine games to begin the month of April, the Cornell College Rams baseball team (17-10 overall) finds themselves in the midst of a losing streak.The Rams resume Midwest Conference action today in Galesburg, Illinois facing off against the Knox College Prairie Fire (5-19 overall).

Cornell enters the conference doubleheader on a three-game losing streak, dropping each game by one run. Their latest setback came Tuesday evening in Moline, Illinois, versus the Augustana College Vikings (22-11 overall). The Rams rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game at 5-5, but the Vikings scored the game winning run in the bottom half of the frame.

A trio of Washington Demon alums have played a part in the Rams’ success this spring. Sophomore Walker Breard, a 2014 Demon graduate, has provided power to the Rams’ batting order. Breard is the only Cornell baseball player to hit more than one home run this season, sending seven pitches over the fence. His 31 runs batted in are 12 more than anyone else on the squad. Senior T.J. Rausch, a 2012 Washington graduate has recorded seven doubles, second most on the Rams’ squad. He also is among the top six players on the team in hits (21) and runs batted in (16). Senior pitcher Jared Henry, a 2012 Washington alum, has appeared in 15 games this spring for Cornell, second most on the team. He owns a 0-2 record with a 1.65 earned run average in 16.1 innings pitched.

First pitch of game one between the Rams and the Prairie Fire is set for 12:30 p.m. After today’s doubleheader, the teams will travel to Mount Vernon for a pair of games tomorrow afternoon at Ash Park.
