The Washington Demon track teams qualified one girls’ event for this upcoming weekend’s Drake Relays. On the cutoff day last Thursday, the Demon girls’ 4×100 meter relay team of Makenzi Marek, Jenah Greiner, Amber Salow, and Kelly Wheeler clocked their season-best time of 52 seconds flat, taking first place honors at the Washington Invite. The time was among the 80 fastest times in the state, qualifying the squad for the 107th running of the Drake Relays this week in Des Moines.

The Demons are set to run in lane two of the seventh heat of the competition. Washington will compete in the heat against runners from Davenport North, North Scott, West Hancock, Western Dubuque-Epworth, Montezuma, Northeast and Waukon. The preliminary races are scheduled for 5:10 p.m. Friday at the blue oval in Des Moines.

The Washington Demon boys’ track team didn’t qualify an athlete or a relay team for this year’s Drake Relays.
