The season continued in Wapello County Thursday for the Washington Demon girls’ track team. The Demon girls were one of eight teams competing in the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont Invitational. Also participating in the meet included teams from Central Lee, Centerville, Chariton, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Fairfield, North Mahaska, and Wayne. The Demons scored points in 19 events, claiming second place in the team standings with 131.5 points.

Washington scored multiple top six performances in six events. Kelly Wheeler claimed first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.59 seconds, and Makenna Rich came in sixth clocking the sprint in 14.46 seconds. The 200 meter dash competition saw Jenah Greiner place third with a time of 29.02, and Isabel Bailey finished fifth clocking the half lap sprint at 29.94. A pair of Demon runners posted top three finishes in the 400 meter run. Claire Horak had the second fastest quarter mile run at 1:06.2 and Bailey finished a half second behind Horak to take third place.

A pair of Demon distance runners scored in the 1500 and 3000 meter runs. Emme Keith’s 1500 meter run was clocked at 5:56.19, the fourth fastest time in the meet, while Meredith Raber crossed the finish line in fifth place at 6:03.96. Keith ran the second fastest 3000 meter run in 12:15.48, while Maggie Voss finished a distant third, crossing the finish line in 13:14.79.

Finally, the high jump event saw Makenzi Marek take fifth place, clearing 5’8″, while Madelyn Janecek placed a spot behind Marek with a jump of 4’6″.

Fairfield won the invitational title, scoring 170 points. The Demon girls’ track team will next be in competition on Tuesday, participating in the Mount Pleasant Co-Ed Relays.
