Equestrian enthusiasts have a trail in near Sigourney to explore. The Keokuk County Conservation Office maintains an eight-mile horse trail along Lake Belva Deer Park, five miles northeast of Sigourney.

Dave Long is the Executive Director of the Keokuk County Conservation Office, and states the equestrian trail has been a feature of the park for decades. He adds the trail is a mixture of timber and grassland and there is a campsite for horses at the west end of the park which features two pit toilets, rural water access, and eight corrals.

Long says the conservation office charge a fee of two dollars per rider to use the trail, or people can purchase a season pass for $20. The riding season began on February 1st, and concludes at the end of September due to the hunting season.
