It will be made official with Guinness World Records this weekend that Washington is home of the world’s “Oldest Continuously Operating Cinema Theater.” The announcement will be made official Sunday at The Brinton Extravaganza at the State Theater. Local historian Mike Zahs saved some of the world’s oldest moving pictures from being thrown out with garbage years ago and some of the films that once belonged to Frank and Indiana Brinton will be on the State Theater’s screen Sunday and Monday.

Zahs explained people around the world are taking note of this and he hopes local people celebrate it, as it is part of their history, too.

Red Cedar Chamber Music will accompany the two-hour show. Tickets are available online at or at the box office of the State Theater. For the full interview with Zahs click here for part one and part two.
