The Iowa Mennonite Boys Soccer team saw their late comeback attempt fall just short at home against Holy Trinity, dropping the contest 3-2.

The Crusaders dominated possession in the first half and in the 28th minute found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. That’s where the game stood at the halftime break. Holy Trinity doubled their lead early in the second half with a set play goal off of a corner kick. The score stood at 2-0 Crusaders with just 10 minutes left in the match and IMS began their comeback. Anthony Villatoro placed a corner kick in the box and Reggie Borntrager sent it home on a header to cut the Crusader lead in half. Just minutes later it was Villatoro supplying the assist and this time Gerardo Mendoza supplying the power with his foot for the equalizer in the waning moments of the contest. Holy Trinity had the final answer though, the last minutes the Crusaders turned up the pressure and were fouled in the box, leading to a penalty kick that they knocked in to win the game. With the loss IMS is now 1-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
