A new fundraising effort for pediatric cancer research will have members of the Optimists of Washington Iowa shaving the heads. “Shave to Save” is a new grassroots campaign from the Iowa District Optimists where they are hoping to raise $30,000 to distribute between the Iowa Children’s Hospital and Children’s Research Center, the Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, the Metro Area Youth Foundation, and the John Hopkins Research Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. The head shaving event will take place at the Optimist’s 3rd Quarter Conference on April 30 in Iowa City.

Jim Cluney is a board member of the Optimists of Washington and says he’s joining local optimist members Lee Buchholz, Don Pfeiffer, and Evelyn Hearld in the fundraising efforts. Cluney has set a personal goal of $1,000 raised for the Shave to Save campaign, and says any donation made is tax deductible.

Anyone wanting more information or to donate to the Optimists of Washington Iowa’s Shave to Save campaign is asked to call Cluney at (319) 653-1735.
