Several Iowa colleges were interested in the running ability of Winfield-Mount Union’s John Quinn. However, the Wolves’ senior decided to take his talents out of state, signing a letter of intent to run both cross country and track for the Piedmont College Lions this fall. Piedmont College is located in Demorest, Georgia.

Quinn was named this week’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week and discussed his collegiate decision. He says in state schools Coe College, Simpson College, Wartburg College and St. Ambrose University all expressed interest in him, but he ultimately picked Piedmont College because he feels he can make an impact on the future success of the team.

Quinn’s has had a decorated running career for W-MU thus far. He qualified for the state cross country meet his last two high school seasons, placing 50th as a junior and 19th last October. On the track, Quinn finished the 2015 state meet as the ninth fastest runner in the Class 1A 3200 meter run. He also qualified for the state track meet in 2014, participating in the 1600 meter run.
