Sewer separation work continues in Washington and a change order on one project was approved by the Washington City Council this week. City Administrator Brent Hinson explains the issue with the courthouse sanitary sewer project they ran into on 2nd Street, near the Methodist Church included finding what they believed was a 12-inch pipe was truly 15-inches wide, causing a higher cost for materials. Also, the line was found to be an open jointed field tile that had been crushed in some spots. The change was about $40,000 and the council approved replacing a four-inch cast iron water main on Jefferson Street between B Avenue and C Avenue before pavement is poured. The total change order cost was about $69,000.
