The unblemished records of the Sigourney Savage boys’ and girls’ golf teams will be tested again this afternoon in Marengo. The Savages will battle the Iowa Valley Tigers in a South Iowa Cedar League nine hole event at the Marengo Golf Course. The Savages boys’ and girls’ golf teams have won all five meets they’ve competed in this spring.

The Sigourney boys’ golf team is coming off of a convincing win against Lynnville-Sully Monday. The Savages collectively shot a 170 at the Diamond Trail Golf Club in Lynnville, winning the event by 38 strokes. Junior Kaden Benson earned medalist honors at the meet, carding a two over 38. Senior Jordan Albert finished one stroke ahead of Benson to take second place overall. Lynnville-Sully senior Caleb Jansen had the lowest score for the Hawks, shooting a seven over 43.

The Tigers boys’ golf team enters the meet this afternoon with a better nine hole average than the Savages. In their four events, Iowa Valley has recorded an average score of 179.6, nearly three strokes fewer than Sigourney. Senior Gavin Collingwood posts the Tigers lowest nine hole average, completing a half round of golf at 42.6 strokes.

The Savage girls’ golf team also cruised to their fifth meet win of the spring Monday. Sigourney posted a team score of 217, besting Lynnville-Sully by 34 strokes. Senior Stacy Mohr bested the field by shooting 10 over 46, winning the event by nine strokes. Mohr has been the meet medalist in every event this spring. Savage junior Kendall Streigle had the second best score, carding a 54 over nine holes. Lynnville freshman Tessa Van Maanen had the Hawks’ lowest score, shooting 21 over 55 for the round.

The Tigers’ girls’ golf team is the closest to the Savages in nine hole average. Iowa Valley has averaged 216.6 strokes per nine holes in four events this year, trailing Sigourney by over seven strokes.

The South Iowa Cedar League duel between Sigourney and Iowa Valley is scheduled to tee off at 4:15 p.m. and they will play into the evening at the Marengo Golf Club.
