With the national shoot less than a month away, members of the Washington Demon archery teams took part in a tune up tournament this past weekend. The archers took part in the Anamosa Nationals Warmup shoot Saturday at Anamosa High School and Washington’s team was comprised of members of the high school, middle school, and Lincoln Elementary school squads. The Washington team finished second out of the 16 teams with a collective score of 3310. Anamosa won the event with a team score of 3390.

Sixth grader Lane Frana led the way for Washington, posting a score of 286 out of 300 points with 18 bullseyes. His performance ranked him third in the elementary boys’ category and seventh out of the 170 person boys’ field. Junior Grace Shafer had the best female score for Washington, finishing with 285 points and 19 bullseyes.

The members heading to the national shoot from Washington includes: Allison Rees (5th), Curtis Stender (5th), Kenna Rathmell (6th), Frana (6th), Bryan Martin (7th), Samantha Mellinger (8th), Griffin Wood (FR), Mitchell Driscoll (FR), Hannah Frame (FR), and Andrew Venenga (FR), Kylee Porter (SO), Cody Mellinger (SO), Meredith Raber (SO), Willow Kane (SO), John Sands (JR), Shafer (JR), Jade Wells (SR), and Joseph Dalziel (SR).

The National Archery in the Schools Program’s National Shoot is set for May 12-14 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, KY.
