Southeast Conference rivals are set to collide tonight on the pitch.The Washington Demon and the Mount Pleasant Panthers will face each other tonight with the girls’ game being played in Mount Pleasant and the boys’ game in Washington.

The struggles continue for the Demon girls’ soccer team (0-6 overall; 0-2 Southeast), who are still looking for their first victory of the spring. The latest match saw Washington fall to the Fort Madison Bloodhounds (2-6 overall), 8-1, at home Thursday afternoon. The Demons’ lone goal came with seconds remaining in the match when senior Stacy Ramirez sent a penalty kick into the back of the net. It was the third goal of the season for Washington in six games played.

It’s been an even season thus far for the Panther girls’ soccer team (3-3 overall; 1-2 Southeast), who has won three of their six games. Senior Lauren Ralls leads Mount Pleasant in goals scored, sending five shots into the back of the net. Freshman Mary West is the Panthers’ top facilitator, assisting on three goals in her initial varsity season.

The Demon boys’ soccer team will try to end a long conference losing streak tonight when the Panthers come to town. Washington has dropped their last 14 league matches dating back to the 2014 season. The Demons’ latest conference setback happened Thursday in Washington, falling 7-2 to the Fort Madison Bloodhounds. A pair of underclassmen are leading Washington in scoring this spring. Sophomore Anthony Torres and freshman Caleb Suchan have each found the back of the net on four occasions. Suchan scored three goals last week alone. Sophomore Thomas Zimmer has totaled 77 saves in goal this season, tops in the Southeast Conference.

Since opening the season with a 6-0 victory over Centerville, the Mount Pleasant boys’ soccer team (1-4 overall; 0-3 Southeast) has dropped their last four matches. The Panthers have lost three straight league matches by a single goal. Junior Ryan Hutchinson and freshman Cade Warner have each scored four goals a piece for the Panthers, leading the squad.

Both games are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. and will continue into the evening.
