The current U.S. Drought Monitor shows 15.6% of the Midwest as abnormally dry. Yellow shaded areas are considered abnormally dry and orange sections are experiencing moderate drought.

Washington received 0.65 inches of rain this week and has received less than an inch so far this April, below the normal. According to the National Weather Service, Washington’s normal rainfall total for the first three weeks of April is 2.27 inches and only 0.71 has been observed. So far this year, Washington has received just over half of the normal 7.19 inches of precipitation.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Iowa is not experiencing any drought conditions at this time, but the same can’t be said about the entire Midwest region. Currently 15.6% of the Midwest is abnormally dry, and 68.3% of Missouri is abnormally dry.
