Phone scams regarding income taxes have been reported in Washington County recently. Cara Sorrells, Washington County E911 director, tells KCII News reports of these calls are escalating with it being tax season. In one scam, a local resident received three calls in 48 hours and the person on the other end of the call said they were with the IRS and it was the final courtesy before the IRS would bring litigation for the allegedly $8,900 owed. The phone number for this scam came from Kentucky with a 502 area code. Scams can be reported to the IRS Bureau office. Residents are reminded to not give out personal information over the phone.
