Seven KCII area schools made the trip to Roth Track and Field at WACO Thursday night for the class 1A state qualifying meet.

Participating in the event from the listening area were Iowa Mennonite, Keota, Sigourney, Highland, Lone Tree, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union. The team championship race was won by the Danville Bears and their score of 110 points. The highest area finish came from the Sigourney Savages, they finished third with 81 points. Other area team scores included Highland fourth with 77 points, Lone Tree and WACO tied for fifth with 74 points. IMS seventh with 63 points, WMU eighth with 42 and Keota 12th with three points. In each event, the event champion automatically qualified for the state meet. Others can still qualify but the state will only accept the next 12 best performances, which will be figured Friday. The following athletes automatically qualified for the state meet Thursday night:

Emma Beachy of Iowa Mennonite School was a champion in the discus, throwing 89’11”.

Mayme Hinh of the host school WACO Warriors taking the shot put title with a toss of 33’2.50”. Angel Frier is headed to state for WACO after winning the 100m dash with a time of 13.31 seconds.

The Sigourney shuttle hurdle relay team of Autum Barthelman, Sloane Magill, Leah Carter and Allison Schroeder with their time of 1:11.08. Barthelman also qualified individually, winning the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.61 seconds. Summer Barthelman punched her ticket for the Savages, winning the long jump event with a leap of 16’4.25”.

The Highland 4x100m relay team was an auto qualifier. The team of Sarah Schneider, Kelsey Hora, Sydney Black and Aly Stokes won the event with their time of 52.19 seconds.

The State Championship meet fields will be finalized by the end of the day today, and it is still possible for more area athletes and events to qualify based on time. KCII sports will bring you more information as it becomes official. The Iowa State track meet is held May 19th-21st.
