Mushroom hunting season has drawn to a close, but foragers in Washington County can now look forward to a different hunt. Conservationist Steve Anderson says the time is soon for wild berry hunting. He says the wild strawberries are about ready to pick, and they’ll be followed shortly by raspberries and then blackberries. Given their size, he does recommend eating them in the wild, as opposed to taking them home to harvest.

Marr Park will be a hot spot for berry hunting, in particular the wild strawberries. Open grassy areas are especially good for wild strawberries according to Anderson, and Washington County parks have no shortage of them. Anderson estimates by next week the wild strawberries should be ripe to pick.
