Residents of Washington will soon be able to pay their utility bill online. At Tuesday’s Washington City Council meeting, the council approved moving forward with setting up a system for online payment of city bills. Finance Director Kelsey Brown explained there is an $800 one time fee to set up the website and then about $200 to $300 each month for the city depending on the number of transactions. There will be a $1.25 transaction fee for customers. City Administrator Brent Hinson said the city processes nearly $3 million in utilities each year. Brown added this will be convenient for residents and it will help city staff be more efficient.
In addition to utilities, online paying will be available for parking tickets, building permits, library fines, dog reclaiming fees, rental inspections and park reservations. It will take six to eight weeks to implement.
