One game stands between the No. 4 Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union Wildcats (16-1 overall) and a spot in the Class 1A boys’ state soccer tournament. The Wildcats welcome the Albia Blue Demons (9-9 overall) to Columbus Junction for the Class 1A Substate 6 championship game.

Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union advanced to the title game after ending the Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders’ (7-12 overall) season Wednesday evening. Senior Diego Sanchez scored the only goal of the match in the 13th minute as the Wildcats’ posted their 13th shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory. W-MU senior Warren Kreiger-Coble made four saves in the net, bringing his season total to 53.

The Albia Blue Demons made it to the championship match after a 2-0 upset victory over No. 6 Danville Bears (13-4 overall) Wednesday in Columbus Junction. Senior Lee Curan leads the Blue Demons with 11 goals scored. Senior Josiah Harris has posted 98 saves in the net.

Kickoff of the Class 1A Substate 6 championship game between Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union and Albia is scheduled for noon at Columbus High School.
