Another season of Washington Demon Archery ended in Louisville, Kentucky over the weekend. Eighteen members of the Washington high school, middle school, and Lincoln Elementary School archery teams traveled to the Kentucky Exposition Center for the 2016 National Archery in the Schools Program’s National Shoot. Washington concluded their season Friday with 3,299 points, placing 74th out of 232 teams across the nation. Washington’s result was 22 points better than last season and it earned the Demons the sixth best score from Iowa out of the 11 schools represented.

Freshman Griffin Wood and eighth grader Samantha Mellinger both scored 281 points; Wood tallied 19 bullseyes while Mellinger posted 14.

The Demon archers also competed at the Nationals 3D shoot Saturday. Mellinger came away with the top score for Washington, scoring 280 points and 14 bullseyes. Junior John Sands had the best male score in the 3D shoot, posting 273 points and 14 bullseyes.
