The postseason run for the Washington Demon girls’ golf team will continue into next week. The Demons participated in the Class 4A Regional Final Tournament at the Oakland Acres Golf Course in Grinnell, competing for a spot at state against golfers from Cedar Rapids Xavier, Clear Creek Amana, Central DeWitt, Grinnell, Keokuk, Lisbon-Mount Vernon, Maquoketa, Mount Pleasant, North Scott, and Oskaloosa. The top two teams and the top five individuals are advancing to next week’s state tournament

The Demons’ qualified as a team for the state tournament, placing second overall with a score of 356. The Mount Pleasant Panthers are the regional champions, shooting a collective score of 345.

Washington sophomore Sarah Nacos came away as the tournament’s medalist, carding a 75. She was the Demons only top five finisher. Senior Deanna Peiffer shot an 87. Senior Brenna Burlingame and sophomore Megan Strabala rounded out Washington’s scoring, posting 97 strokes each.

The Demons will have a chance to defend their Class 4A state championship next Tuesday and Wednesday at the Coldwater Links Golf Course in Ames.
