Competition resumed for the Washington Demon girls’ golf team Monday in Burlington. The Demons took part in the 2016 Grayhound Invitational Golf tournament, hosted by Burlington Community Schools at the par 71 Flint Hills Golf Course. Washington won the tournament title by shooting the lowest score of 342. Fairfield finished in second place with 357 strokes, followed by Muscatine with 364, Pleasant Valley scored 375, and Mount Pleasant rounded out the top five with 377 strokes.

The Demons were led in scoring by senior Deanna Peiffer, who carded a three over 74, taking medalist honors for the meet. This marked the first time in two seasons a Washington golfer other than Sarah Nacos won the individual competition. Nacos came away with an 18-hole round of six over 77. Sophomores Megan Strabala and Allison Vogel rounded out the scoring for Washington, scoring 92 and 99 strokes respectively.

The Demons’ return to the golf course tomorrow afternoon, taking part in an 18-hole golf tournament hosted by Ottumwa High School. Tee time is set for noon at the Ottumwa Country Club.
