Friday’s events at the Iowa Boys and Girls State Track Meet in Des Moines will feature the Washington Demon track team in six Class 3A events, including five on the girls side.

Washington opens up day two of the state track meet at 9 a.m. with senior McKayla Miller in the shot put. The final event for the Demon boys’ track team takes place at 9:40 a.m. when junior Caleb Bex will run in the preliminary race of the 110 meter hurdles.

At 10 a.m. junior Jessie Buchholz is set to participate in the preliminary race of the 100 meter hurdles. The Demons’ 4×200 meter relay team of senior Amber Salow, freshman Isabel Bailey, freshman Jenah Greiner, and senior Kelly Wheeler will run in the preliminary race at 10:50 a.m.

Bailey continues her first state track meet appearance at 11:30 a.m. today in the girls’ long jump. Finally, the Demon girls’ 4×100 meter relay squad will run in the preliminary race at 12:40 p.m. Friday, featuring junior Makenzi Marek, Greiner, Salow, and Wheeler.

Washington competed in three events during the opening day of Iowa Boys and Girls State Track Meet Thursday. Washington senior Michael Ellingson didn’t clear 5′9″ in the boys’ high jump competition, leaving him without a result.

The Demon girls’ 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle relay team had their state run end in the preliminary race. The group of senior Carolan Hoffman, senior Emma Wood, senior Mackenzie Knutson, and Buchholz clocked a time of 1:09.98, the 15th fastest in the 24-team field. Lastly, Wheeler competed in the preliminary race of the girls’ 100 meter dash. Her sprint was clocked at 13.35 seconds, the 18th best performance.
